The winners of the 2009 DEEP Indonesia international underwater photography & video competition, hosted by DivePhotoGuide & Wetpixel, have been announced! Winning images can be found here. Images were submitted from around the world, and we congratulate all of the participants for such impressive images of the world's oceans and reefs.
The Best of Show went to Gabriele Donati of Italy. Winners alone represented 13 different countries. A complete list of the results, winning images and prizes can be found on the DEEP Indonesia 2009 competition page. Congratulations to all of the winners from around the world!
The winning images were on display during Indonesia's first and only water sports expo, DEEP Indonesia, in Jakarta Indonesia, March 27th - 29th, 2009.
The team at DivePhotoGuide, Wetpixel and DEEP Indonesia want to congratulate all the competitors for the high quality level of the images submitted. It was a tough competition to judge. Congratulations to the winners!
Photographers competed in seven themed categories (Divers, Animal Portraits, Animal Behavior, Reefscapes, Environment & Conservation, Compact Camera, and Indonesian Residents) to win over $30,000 in prizes, including photo equipment, dive gear, and premium dive travel packages to some of the top photo destinations in Indonesia and beyond. Indonesia trips include Bali, Fak Fak, Komodo, Lembeh, Manado, and Raja Empat. Additional dive packages include Papua New Guinea and The Bahamas. The competition included a category for images that focus on conservation and the marine environment, one specifically for entries taken by compact digital cameras, and one specifically for Indonesian residents..
A panel of esteemed judges included leading professional underwater photographers Cor Bosman and Tony Wu and Scuba Diving AustralAsia editor David Espinosa.
The competition results will also be published by supporting media partners worldwide.
As with all Wetpixel & DivePhotoGuide competitions, 15% of proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.
