Posted: Thursday, March 31, 2011

The 2011 DEEP Indonesia international underwater photography competition winners have been announced! The competition is part of a unique series of underwater imaging events and has become one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world. Underwater photographers are fortunate to have a unique perspective on the underwater realm, one that most people will only be able to experience through images. During a time when the oceans are in crisis, a growing global community of scuba divers and photographers have become the eyes and ears of the ocean, helping to educate and inspire the rest of the world.

Thousands of entries from underwater photographers around the world, from novice to professionals compete annually in what has become the “Superbowl” of international underwater imagery events. Combined with the Our World Underwater competition, this year over $120,000 of world-class prizes were awarded.

Congratulations to Erin Quicgley of the United States, who won Best of Show for her 1st place image from the Animal Behavior category.

Winners were on exhibit in Jakarta at the DEEP Indonesia diving and extreme sports expo March 31st - Apr 2nd, 2011, and will be published by supporting media partners worldwide. You can enjoy all of the winning images here.

As with all UnderwaterCompetition.com events, 15% of entry proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.

The judges and staff at DivePhotoGuide.com and Wetpixel.com congratulate all the participants - the level of imagery was outstanding. The winners, who represent 14 countries, should be proud for producing some of the best underwater images of the year!
