2017 Competitions Announced with More Than $100,000 in Prizes
Posted: Monday, November 28, 2016

The 12th edition of the Underwater Competition Series, organized by founders DivePhotoGuide.com and Wetpixel, is back! And there’s over $100,000 worth of prizes up for grabs again.

Opening today, November 28, the series comprises the Our World Underwater Competition, the “Super Bowl” of underwater imagery events, and the DEEP Indonesia Competition, the signature component of Indonesia’s prestigious diving, adventure travel and extreme sports expo.

Once again, we have a raft of amazing prizes to give away, including the hottest underwater photo and video gear as well as trips to some of the world’s top dive resorts and aboard the best liveaboards in the industry. The prizes are awarded to winners in 13 categories, and the grand prizewinner of the Our World Underwater Competition receives $1000 in cash for the image awarded “Best of Show.”

Photographers of all levels can enter, from beginners and compact camera users to professional wildlife photographers and videographers, and even commercial or fashion photographers. As previously, the Our World Underwater Competition features technical categories, while the DEEP Indonesia Competition offers themed entry categories.

Organizers Matt Weiss and Eric Cheng issued the following joint statement:

“Now in their 12th year, the contests that comprise the Underwater Competition Series remain two of the photography world’s most exciting, with the quality of the entries maintained at an impressively high level each year. We’re sure this year will be no different, and we fully expect our judging panel to have a challenging time picking winners!”

As in previous editions, the contest judges consist of a distinguished panel of industry experts, including photographers, filmmakers and publishing professionals, with the renowned underwater photographer David Doubilet joining the panel this year.

The Our World Underwater Competition winners will be announced, and their winning images showcased, at the Our World Underwater exhibition on February 24, while the winners of the DEEP Indonesia Competition will be announced on March 30, with their entries exhibited at the DEEP Indonesia show. Winning images will also be published by our international media partners, reaching an audience of millions.

The organizers are once again pleased to announce that 15 percent of entry proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.
